Georgia made new accusations against Russia. On Wednesday, Georgian Ambassador to the UN Revaz Adamia accused Russia of genocide and conducting ethnic cleansing in Abkhazia. According to him, Russian peacekeepers in the Georgia-Abkhaz conflict took the side of the Abkhazian separatists. Adamia claims that during the conflict 300 thousand ethnic Georgians were expelled from Abkhazia and another 10 thousand killed.
«I am sure that there was genocide and ethnic cleansing,» the Georgian politician said, speaking at a press conference at the UN headquarters, the Associated Press reports.
In addition, Revaz Adamia urged the United Nations to consider the replacement of the CIS peacekeeping force in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone on «the present peacekeeping operation under UN auspices». He justified it by the offer of «serious change in Russia's position» on the prospects of settlement of the conflict between Tbilisi and Sukhumi, reports RIA «Novosti». Adamia said that Moscow, apparently, no longer supports the territorial integrity of Georgia and took a course on «actual annexation» of Abkhazia.
